Frequently Asked Questions

Is food served during the sail?
-Food is not served on the sail, but you're more than welcome to bring your own snacks or picnic. However, please do not bring coolers onboard. Bottled water, soft drinks, wine, and both imported and domestic beer are available for purchase. Prices range from $1.50 to $5.00, so be sure to bring extra cash.

What should I wear?
-Dress comfortably, and weather appropriate. Keep in mind that it is usually 5-10 degrees cooler on the water. Soft-soled shoes are also recommended.

What happens if it starts raining during the sail?
-Don't worry, some of the most memorable and fun trips have taken place in less-than-perfect weather! If you're caught in a rain shower, you may go below to the main salon, or you may borrow one of many rain ponchos.

Is there a restroom on the boat?
-Yes, the boat is equipped with a clean restroom. It is called a "marine head" and it is different from a bathroom you would use on land. It is located down a stairway below decks, and it has a foot pedal. There are simple directions in the head or you can ask a crew member to explain!

Is the ship wheelchair accessible?
-No, it is not wheelchair accessible as boarding the Schooner is from a dock with four steps and a short gangway onto the main deck, which requires passengers to climb the entrance boarding stairs. Also, restroom facilities are below the main deck and require going down steep steps.

Are dogs allowed onboard?
-Yes, small dogs are allowed onboard - so long as they are kept on a leash or in a carrier.

How steady is the sailing? Am I likely to get seasick?
-The Schooner Pride is a steady, smooth sailboat weighing 48.5 tons, and it is quite uncommon for guests to become seasick. It is not officially advised that you take medication; however, if you normally take something for motion sickness, you may want to consider the same for your sail.

Are any areas of the ship covered or air conditioned?
-While there are no parts of the boat that are air-conditioned, guests are more than welcome to go below deck or stay in the shade of the sails to keep out of the sun. The natural sea breeze provides our fan. Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended. Drink plenty of water on hot days to stay hydrated.

Do we see dolphins and other sea life or birdlife?
-Most of the time you will see plenty of sea life and birds. While it's not guaranteed, sightings often include dolphins, pelicans, and other local wildlife.
