Held by the Drayton family for more than 300 years, this estate maintains over 50 acres of landscaped gardens. Magnolia Plantation offers the oldest major public garden in America and is also America's oldest man-made attraction, having been open to the public annually since the late 1860s. Considered by many experts to be "the most beautiful garden in the world" for over one hundred years, its reputation today is maintained by the plantings today which offer the maximum color possible during every season. There is beauty everywhere! Magnolia Plantation is home to a herd of miniature horses who graze the lawn behind a split-rail fence, ducks and geese that glide through the lovely waters, peacocks who strut the walks, and other fowl that move among the shrubs in the garden.
Some of Magnolia Plantation's other areas of interest are: The curtain rises on the Story of Charleston. Sometimes a drama... Sometimes a comedy... Always an adventure.
