They depended on the tidal creeks and bays for fish, oysters, and clams. Native shell mounds are located on the Refuge and hold the history of these tribes. English settlers in South Carolina made their first landing in the New World on Bulls Island to resupply their stocks of wood, water, and food before proceeding further south. The English settlers eventually made the first permanent European settlement in South Carolina at what is now know as the City of Charleston.
Testimonials ~ " We are going to come back next March and do another kayaking trip with you. First time ever, we have decided to go back to the same area. That speaks very highly of you and the time we had kayaking with you on the Wambaw. It was a real pleasure for the two of us to make your acquaintance and tap into your vast knowledge of the outdoor world around us." - Ruth "Thank you for the kayak trips you have provided for my groups of women. You have given life empowering experiences with the confidence you instill in each of us through your positive teaching skills, your safety instruction, and your leading by example. You make each trip special bringing the earth into a fine focus with your naturalist perspective." - Kathie Child rate applies to children 12 and under.
