Enjoy a leisurely boat cruise aboard the Bluffton Ferry from Hilton Head Island, up the pristine May River to the scenic town of Bluffton.

Located in what was the King's grant to Lord Proprietor Colleton, Bluffton has had quite an interesting and important history. Situated on the High Bluff overlooking the May River, it came to be - in the early 1800s - the summering place where the families of the rice and cotton planters of the surrounding Low Country could escape the heat, insects and malaria of the near sea-level plantations.

Its antebellum homes and churches - many of which still stand - are as interesting today as on the day they were built. You can learn about the fascinating and sometimes tragic history of these gracious and genuine Low Country plantation homes on this guided excursion of the area's historic ties to plantation life.

After visiting downtown Bluffton, we will bus over to the beautiful Rose Hill Mansion, built in the late 1850s by planter and physician Dr. John Kirk and his wife Caroline. The couple occupied the home until it was seized by Union troops during the Civil War. The Rose Hill Mansion is a significant example of Gothic Revival residential architecture.
